Mums’ List: Socks, Sloppy Joes, and More

FAMILY LIFE

This week I was spooked by a sock! I usually put 6-month-old William in a Halo Sleep Sack for bedtime. This week I put him down for a nap in regular clothes, he was wearing a sweater and seemed warm enough. Twenty minutes later, I heard him scream – I ran (which was the only running I did all week due to rainy, dreary weather) to his room. He was laying there with one of his socks all the way in his mouth! That will never happen again, footie pajamas or sleep sacks will always be used for sleep time.

We had friends, family, and neighbors over for a game night and discovered that Sloppy Joes are a great meal when entertaining. We browned ground beef then tossed it in the crock pot with Sloppy Joe sauce. When it was time to eat, I toasted buns in the oven and put out grated cheese – easy as that. Everyone built their own sandwich and sprinkled cheese on top. It was easy, delicious, and rather cheap considering the number of people we fed. It was so easy I decided to whip up my favorite potato salad recipe, which was also a success:20140328-210852.jpg

I started a new bedtime routine, which I just made a post about, where I encourage gratitude from my 4-year-old. And speaking of posts…

SOCIAL ME(dia)

  • Mums’ List is a blast. I completely enjoyed reading and finding new blogs through #mumslist and in return, my Springing into New Beginnings: Mums’ List post had more views than any other post this week. It’s extremely exciting since blogging is still a new world to me.
  • Yes, I’m a newbie and so far I find blogging quite addicting: every view, comment, like, and follow makes me want to write more. Ideas are flooding through my head, and with every spare moment (ha!) I create the images and words needed to make my ideas into posts.
  • I successfully met my goal of using at least one image in each post, and of making at least two posts this week (this makes my fourth post this week – like I said, addicting!). Next I want to work on improving the quality of my images.

INSPIRATION

This week I felt inspired by a daily parenting tip posted by Dr. Mom with Picture Book Parenting. After reading the article and observing myself, I realized I often ask questions when I mean to instruct. (Will you please go brush your teeth?…what do you mean no?…I’m not asking, I’m telling!) Now that I’m aware of this habit, I’m making every effort to stop “asking” when I’m really “telling”. If answering “no” isn’t an option, then it shall not be formed as a question.

  1. Hi again!

I’m not really at the same stage as you parenting-wise (Gwenn is 11 months), but I am going to remember that I shouldn’t “ask” when really there is no option as to the outcome of the request! It’s such a simple idea but one I hope I’ll be able to put into practice.

And as I have been up since 6:30 and had a cookie and a cup of tea for breakfast (terrible, I know!!), I am drooling over the thought of those Sloppy Joes. We are going out for lunch today; wonder if I can find somewhere in the North East of England that does them?!

    See you next week.

  2. What are sloppy Joes??! Sounds Devine anyway, you had me at browned mince!

I’m so glad you’re enjoying the linkie and I hope we can all help each other out with our blogging questions! That was my hope for the link up anyway so ask away!

Reuben is at the age where I need instruct and not ask! So I’ll remember this too! He mainly ignores my instructions at the moment but I’ll be mindful not to ask his to brush his teeth or sit down while he’s eating! Haha 😉

Thanks for linking in again! Xxxx

    • Sloppy Joes are a sandwich usually made on a hamburger bun. You brown ground beef, add a red sloppy joe sauce, and pile some on the sandwich. They are sloppy and messy because the meat is piled on rather than made into a burger patty. I’ll send you a recipe on Pinterest and I wish I had taken pictures of ours to show you! Thanks for the comment 🙂

  3. p.s. I realise I ask questions ALL the time. Do you want to come for breakfast? No. Are you getting in the bath? No.
Lesson learned (or learning – it’s quite hard!) xx

  4. Sloppy Joes are always a winner 🙂 I always wonder if I should let Thomas sleep in socks as I sometimes do… he can’t really put his feet into his mouth though (too fat haha) but he is starting to do it more now….so will put him in sleep suits from now on! thanks for the heads up! #mumslist
